Author Biographies

Matthew A. Richmond, Newcastle University, School of Geography, Politics and Sociology, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom

Lecturer in Political Geography at Newcastle University. He holds a PhD in Human Geography from King’s College London, MPhil in Social Sciences from the University of Cambridge and a BA in History from the London School of Economics (LSE). He completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Centro de Estudos da Metrópole (CEM) and the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), as well as a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship at the LSE. He researches a range of topics, including urbanization, governance, security, subjectivity and electoral geography. He is Secretary of the Latin American Geographies Research Group of the Royal Geographical Society in the United Kingdom.

Patrícia Maria de Jesus, Universidade Federal do ABC, Centro de Engenharia, Modelagem e Ciências Sociais Aplicadas, São Bernardo do Campo, SP, Brazil

Adjunct Professor at the Federal University of ABC (UFABC) in Territorial Planning and Sciences and Humanities. She holds a BA in Geography from the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), and a Master's and PhD in Geography from the Universide de São Paulo (USP). She completed a doctoral internship at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) – Xochimilco campus, in Mexico, and a postdoctoral fellowship in Territorial Planning and Management at UFABC. She is interested in the following topics: Brazilian urbanization, urban geography, urban planning, housing policies, and social housing movements.

Jean Legroux , Universidade Estadual Paulista, Departamento de Geografia, Presidente Prudente, SP, Brazil

Postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Estadual Paulista (FCT-Unesp), Presidente Prudente campus. He holds a degree in Political Science from the Institut d’Études Politiques de Rennes (France), a Master 1 in Conflicts and Social Ties in Latin America and a Master 2 in Engineering of Urban Services Networks (IEP of Rennes and University of Rennes 1, France). He has a PhD in Geography, Urbanism and Planning from the Université Lumière Lyon 2 and in Urban and Regional Planning at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) (thesis completed under joint supervision). He completed a postdoctoral internship at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon. He is interested in the following topics: production of space, urban geography, urban planning, housing policies, peripheries, mobility, everyday life, spatial practices and spatial justice.
